De      Definition  คือการนิยามความหมายของคำที่เราไม่ทราบความหมายของมัน  โดยจะมีคำเหล่านี้ : is/are,is/are called,is/are known as,is/are defined as,can be defined as,is meant by,refer to,constitute and is consider to be. เป็นตัวชี้แนะความหมายซึ่งโดยส่วนใหญ่แล้วความหมายนั้นจะอยู่หลังคำศัพท์ที่ไม่รู้นั้นเสมอ


 ยกตัวอย่างเช่น
      
 1.  Marsh is an area of low and wet land.

Marsh เป็นศัพท์ที่ไม่คุ้นเคย

is            เป็นคำชี้แนะ

Marsh จึงหมายถึง an area of low and wet land.
